COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Saint John's University stayed at No. 9 in the latest D3football.com poll released Sunday, Sept. 16, and debuted at No. 10 in the first American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) poll of the 2018 season on Monday, Sept. 17.

Six teams in the West region, including SJU, were ranked in D3football.com's top 25: St. Thomas (No. 3), Wisconsin-Whitewater (No. 10), Linfield (No. 11), Wisconsin-Oshkosh (No. 12) and Wisconsin-La Crosse (No. 23).

SJU pulled away from Gustavus Adolphus in the second half for a 45-13, MIAC-opening win Sept. 15 in St. Peter. Junior quarterback Jackson Erdmann (Rosemount, Minn.) ended the game 13 of 20 passing for 231 yards and three touchdowns, including a 10-for-15 showing for 170 yards and the three scores in the first half alone. He also led the Johnnies' rushing attack with 54 yards on eight carries. The Johnnies posted a second-half shutout thanks to two forced turnovers and an electric, 92-yard blocked field goal return for a touchdown by junior safety Ryan LaCasse (Mountlake Terrace, Wash.), the first in SJU's 108-season history.

The Johnnies (2-0, 1-0 MIAC) host Carleton for Family and Homecoming Weekend at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, in Clemens Stadium.
