Cross Country Hosts SJU Fall Finale Friday

The SJU cross country hosts its annual Saint John's Fall Finale this Friday, Nov. 5. The race is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. from the Radio Tower Fields in Collegeville. The actual start-line will be near the Collegeville water tower.

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's finished third out of 11 teams at the 2010 MIAC Championship last Saturday in St. Paul. Senior Dustin Franta (La Crescent, Minn.) finished the 8k course third overall with a time of 25:50. In addition to Franta, junior Ruairi Moynihan (Fargo, N.D./South) earned All-MIAC honors with an 11th-place finish (26:34). Sophomore Matt Scherber (Royalton, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) followed in 21st (26:54), while junior Jordan Fladland (Coon Rapids, Minn.), junior Joe Gair (Coon Rapids) and senior David Forster (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) claimed 30th (27:06), 31st (27:06) and 35th (27:17), respectively. Junior Grant Cook (Duluth, Minn./East) rounded out the Johnnies' seven in 40th with a time of 27:27. The Johnnies fell to No. 6 in the the most recent USTFCCCA Central Region rankings released Nov. 2, and fell out of the national rankings.

WHO WILL BE HERE: Ten other schools are scheduled to join SJU Friday: Bethel, Gustavus Adolphus, Hamline, Martin Luther, Minnesota, Minnesota-Morris, North Central (Minn.), Northwestern (Minn.) and South Dakota State.

LAST YEAR'S RACE: SJU finished second out of seven teams at last year's Finale. South Dakota State won the race with a total of 25 points, followed by SJU (43), North Central (103), Bethel (109) and Martin Luther (121). Senior Tom Hoffman (Mahtomedi, Minn.) led the Johnnies with a 12th-place finish overall (fifth collegiately) with a time of 26:53, while Fladland took 19th (11th; 27:52).
