PELLA, Iowa – Junior forward Cam Christensen (Bismarck, N.D./St. Mary’s) scored two goals to lead Saint John’s to a 2-1 nonconference victory over Central College on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
Christensen found the back of the net 20 minutes into the contest to give SJU an early 1-0 lead. Junior midfielder Levi Lowell (Stillwater, Minn.) assisted on the scoring play for the Johnnies. Central’s Jason Winslow tied the game at the 54th minute (54:13) to even the score at 1-1. Cody Jandik assisted on the goal for the Dutch (0-1-1).
Christensen scored the go-ahead goal and eventual game-winner at the 77:04 mark with freshman midfielder Tom Hoffman (Mahtomedi, Minn.) earning the assist for SJU.
Senior goalkeeper Matt Sundberg (Wayzata, Minn.) made nine saves to improve his record to 2-0-0 on the young season. The Johnnies won the contest despite being outshot 23-6 (10-3 on goal).
Saint John’s (2-0-1, 0-0 MIAC) will begin conference play by playing host to St. Thomas next Wednesday, Sept. 12. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at Durenberger Field in Collegeville.
