David Johnson begins his eighth year as head coach of the Saint John’s Nordic Ski team in 2007-08. 
Prior to coming to Saint John’s, Johnson coached for many other institutions and organizations. In 1975, he began his career as an assistant volleyball coach at St. Olaf College until 1978. From 1980-82, Johnson became the head volleyball coach for the Centennial School District in Circle Pines, Minn. He served as the head boys and girls Nordic Ski coach at Marshall High School in Duluth, Minn. from 1988-89. Two years later in 1991, Johnson was named the St. Cloud Cathedral High School’s head boys and girls Nordic Ski coach until 1996. In 1997, he was appointed as the inaugural head women’s Nordic Ski coach at St. Cloud State University. The following year, Johnson became the head men’s and women’s cross country coach at St. Cloud State until 2000.
Johnson obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education at St. Olaf College in 1979. Six years later, in 1985, he received his Master's degree in exercise physiology at St. Cloud State University.
He is also a member of three other organizations including the International Conference in Science and Skiing. In addition, he is the Vice President of the Minnesota Ski Association and is a certified exercise specialist for the American College of Sports Medicine.
In both 2002 and 2003, Johnson was awarded the MIAC Men’s Nordic Skiing coach of the year. Johnson has also been the head coach for the St. Ben’s Nordic Ski team for the past seven years. While not coaching, he takes care of his two children.
