COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Saint John's University moved up one spot to No. 6 in the latest D3football.com poll released Sunday, Sept. 17, and debuted at No. 6 in the first American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) poll of the 2017 season on Monday, Sept. 18.
Eight teams in the West region, including SJU, were ranked in D3football.com's top 25: Wisconsin-Oshkosh (No. 3), Linfield (No. 8), St. Thomas (No. 10), Wisconsin-Platteville (No. 13), Whitworth (No. 15), Concordia-Moorhead (No. 21) and Wisconsin-Stout (No. 24).
The Johnnies (3-0, 1-0 MIAC) travel to Target Field this Saturday, Sept. 23, to face St. Thomas (2-1, 1-0 MIAC). The 87th meeting between the two programs is set for a 1:10 p.m. kickoff in Minneapolis.
SJU scored 36 unanswered points in a 56-7 win at St. Olaf last Saturday (Sept. 16) in the 2017 MIAC opener. The Johnnies out-gained the Oles 495-177, including a 298-33 advantage on the ground. For the third consecutive game, SJU scored an offensive touchdown in three plays or less to start the contest.
