SARTELL, Minn. – Saint John's tennis suffered an 8-1 defeat to St. Thomas on Sunday, April 9, in Sartell.

The match was originally scheduled to be held at the new Chang Tennis Complex in Collegeville but was moved indoors to Sta-Fit (formerly Fitness Evolution) due to the forecasted rain.

Junior Tim Larson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) recorded the lone win for SJU (2-12, 1-5 MIAC) at No. 1 singles, defeating the Tommies' Luke Elifson, who entered the match with a 6-1 record (3-0 MIAC). Larson won the first set (6-3) and dropped the second (6-1), but bounced back with a 10-3 victory in the super-breaker.

The win extended the match streak to four for Larson, who is now 9-4 (4-2 MIAC) at No. 1 singles. Three of his four losses were via the super-breaker.

Sophomore Ryan Meger (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi) won his first set at No. 2, 7-6 (7-5), but lost the second (6-3) and the super-breaker (10-7).

UST (10-1, 5-0 MIAC) won the other four singles matches in straight sets, though all three doubles matches were decided by three points or less.

The Johnnies return to action on Saturday, April 22, against Saint Mary's. A blessing and dedication of the Chang Tennis Complex will take place at 2 p.m., following the 10 a.m. SJU Alumni Tennis Open and a 1 p.m. picnic on Lynch Plaza (which is located behind Becker Park's grandstand).
