COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's baseball rode two strong pitching performances from sophomores in a pair of shutouts, 7-0 and 11-0, over Carleton on Wednesday, April 5, in Collegeville.
Game two was scheduled for nine innings but ended due to the 10-run rule following the top of the seventh inning.
The Johnnies (11-7, 2-2 MIAC) batted .364 (20-for-55) on the day and took advantage of 10 walks, three hit batsmen and seven errors committed by the Knights (6-10, 0-4 MIAC).
Sophomore
Jake Dickmeyer (Woodbury, Minn.) improved to 3-0 with the game-one victory, allowing three hits and struck out four in six innings of work. He has a 1.08 ERA and 12 strikeouts, to no walks, in 25 innings this spring.
Junior
Ted Christian (Le Center, Minn./Tri-City United) pitched a scoreless seventh inning to seal the win.
Sophomore
Tommy Auger (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) went the distance in game two to earn his first collegiate win. He scattered eight hits, all singles, and struck out three.
Freshman outfielder
Wyatt Ulrich (Indus, Minn./International Falls) extended his hitting streak to nine games with a 5-for-7 performance on the day. He drove in five runs and scored two himself.
Juniors
Dominick Schleper (Shakopee, Minn.) and
Brennan Swan (Plymouth, Minn./Totino-Grace) combined to go 6-for-10 at the plate, with three hits apiece, at the eighth and ninth spots in the lineup, respectively. Schleper scored four runs on the afternoon and Swan drove in three.
Sophomore designated hitter
Thomas Meland (Northfield, Minn.) also added three hits on the day, with three RBI, including an RBI triple off the right-field fence in game two.
The Johnnies wrap up the homestand with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Saint Mary's on Saturday, April 8, at Becker Park.
