Twumasi Leads SJU at Hamline Invitational

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's registered 17 top-15 marks/times at the Hamline Invitational on Saturday, April 1, in St. Paul.

The meet was not scored. The Johnnies did not compete in either of the two relays (4x100-meter, 4x400-meter).

SJU recorded three of the top four marks in the triple jump, led by senior Raymond Twumasi's (Coon Rapids, Minn.) first-place distance of 13.78 meters. The distance tentatively places him 15th in NCAA Division III (pending today's results across the country). Junior Colton Peterson (Cloquet, Minn./South Ridge) followed in second (13.57 meters) and freshman Collin Trout (Cloquet, Minn.) took fourth (13.36 meters).

Senior Anthony Smith (Newark, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) placed second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.88), 0.08 of a second from first, and freshman Gabe Lura (Victoria, Minn./Chanhassen) finished close behind in third (15.94). Junior Mitch Peck (Alexandria, Minn.) took second in the 400-meter hurdles (55.78) and 11th in the 110-meter variety (16.38). The time of 55.78 seconds is good for 22nd nationally.

Junior Jordan Theisen (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Apollo) claimed third place in the high jump (1.85 meters) and finished eighth in the pole vault (4.40 meters), where freshman Thomas Franek (Montgomery, Minn./Tri-City United) tied for third (4.40 meters).

Senior Ryan Bugler (Okinawa, Japan/Kubasaki) crossed the finish line ninth (1:56.08) in the 800 meters (eighth in the first heat) and classmate Zach Grieves (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) led a trio of Johnnies in the top 15 with a 10th-place time of 51.38 in the 400 meters.

Freshman Storm Sims (Pompano Beach, Fla./Calvary Christian Academy) increased his season-best mark in the discus by nearly four meters (42.14 meters) to take eighth, while senior Peyton Thiry (Lester Prairie, Minn./Lester Prairie-Holy Trinity) took 10th in the hammer throw (48.04 meters).

The Johnnies host an invitational at 11 a.m. next Saturday, April 8, in Clemens Stadium, as well as a two-day, individual multi-event competition Saturday and Sunday.
