Johnnies Open Outdoor Track & Field Season in Style

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's track and field opened its outdoor season with a first-place finish out of six teams at its own invitational on Saturday, March 25, in Collegeville.

The Johnnies won seven events and totaled 18 top-three finishes on the day.

Senior Ryan Kuester (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) won the 200-meter dash (23.13), 0.96 of a second ahead of sophomore Luke Kelvington (Foley, Minn.) in third (24.09), while senior Zach Grieves (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) won the 400-meter dash (52.11).

Senior Raymond Twumasi (Coon Rapids, Minn.) won the triple jump with a distance of 13.62 meters, nine inches ahead of freshman Collin Trout (Cloquet, Minn.) in second (13.39 meters). Junior Colton Peterson (Cloquet, Minn./South Ridge) placed third at 13.27 meters.

Peterson and Trout went 1 (6.29 meters)-2 (6.12 meters) among four participants in the long jump.

Senior Ryan Bugler (Okinawa, Japan/Kubasaki) won the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:54.41 and junior Jordan Theisen (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Apollo) and freshman Thomas Franek (Montgomery, Minn./Tri-City United) registered the top two marks in the pole vault at 4.30 meters.

Senior Peyton Thiry (Lester Prairie, Minn./Lester Prairie-Holy Trinity) finished third in the hammer throw with a distance of 47.97 meters.

Junior Dan Zoltek (East Garafraxa, Ontario/Robert F. Hall) crossed the finish line third in the 1,500 meters (4:14.74). Freshman Gabe Lura (Victoria, Minn./Chanhassen) claimed third in the 110-meter hurdles (16.84), while junior Teddy Kainz (Maple Grove, Minn.) took second in the 400-meter hurdles (60.82). 

SJU won the 4x400-meter relay (3:34.69) by 10 seconds.

The Johnnies travel to St. Paul for the Hamline Invitational next Saturday, April 1, at Klas Field.
