2017 SJU Football Schedule

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Saint John's University football program filled its week-two vacancy for the 2017 season with a non-conference home game against Presentation College (S.D.), head football coach Gary Fasching announced on Thursday, March 23.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sept. 9 at Clemens Stadium, one of six home games during the 2017 season.

"We are excited to add Presentation to our football schedule for 2017," Fasching said. "Coach (Andy) Carr has done a great job of building a very competitive program, and we look forward to playing them this fall at Clemens Stadium."

A program that offers scholarships at the NAIA level, Presentation finished with a 7-3 record in 2016. The September meeting is the first between the two schools on the football field, though SJU is 2-0 all-time against current members of the North Star Athletic Association thanks to its two wins against Mayville State (N.D.) in 1993 (40-8) and 1994 (54-0). Defensive coordinator Jerry Haugen '76 defeated Presentation four times in his other role, SJU's head baseball coach, in 2012. The Johnnies defeated the Saints in basketball (81-70) on Dec. 10, 2004, in Sexton Arena.

The Johnnies open their 2017 campaign with a 1 p.m. kickoff Sept. 2 against St. Scholastica, also nicknamed the Saints, in Collegeville. Conference play begins with a trip to St. Olaf Sept. 16 before the annual Johnnie-Tommie game Sept. 23 at Target Field in Minneapolis. SJU returns home for a pair of special dates, Family Weekend/Tackle Cancer Sept. 30 vs. Bethel and Homecoming Oct. 7 vs. Augsburg. The Johnnies host Gustavus Adolphus Oct. 21 and end the regular season at home Nov. 11 against Concordia-Moorhead. SJU makes its second trip to Northfield Oct. 14 to face Carleton and travels to Hamline Nov. 4 following its bye week (Oct. 28).
