ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's track and field won eight events to take first at the Macalester Triangular on Friday, Feb. 3, in St. Paul.
SJU won the meet with 200 points, followed by Hamline (134), Macalester (118) and a sparse squad from St. Thomas (26).
Senior
Raymond Twumasi (Coon Rapids, Minn.) posted his best mark, 13.22 meters, on his sixth and final attempt to win the triple jump. Senior
Will Zimmerman (Owatonna, Minn.) won the 400 meters (52.51) and senior
Travis Spillum (Little Falls, Minn.) claimed first in the high jump (1.90 meters).
Senior
Maxwell Olson (Warrensburg, Mo.) and freshman
Thomas Franek (Montgomery, Minn./Tri-City United) went 1 (4.40 meters)-2 (4.25 meters) in the pole vault, while seniors
Joseph Rabaey (Hastings, Minn.) and
Alex Charbonneau (New Richmond, Wis.) placed first (4:32.97) and second (4:33.39), respectively, in the mile run.
Sophomore
Max Martin (Minneapolis, Minn.) was the first (8.81) of four Johnnies to cross the finish line in succession in the 60-meter hurdles, 0.09 ahead of junior Mitchell Peck (Alexandria, Minn.) in second.
Freshman
Jesse Audelo (Los Angeles, Calif./Cathedral) won the 200-meter dash (23.00) and took second in the 60-meter variety (7.20).
The Johnnies' 4x200-meter relay (
Ryan Kuester, Audelo,
Kannon O'Brien,
Drew Schoenbauer) took first with a time of 1:32.10.
The Johnnies return home to host an invitational at 11 a.m. next Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Donald McNeely Spectrum in Collegeville.
