Johnnies Post Three All-MIAC Honors at First Day of MIAC Indoor Championships

Day 1 Results

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's track and field recorded three All-MIAC honors at the first day of the 2017 MIAC Indoor Championships on Friday, Feb. 24, on the campus of St. Thomas in St. Paul.

The host Tommies lead the 10-team field with a total of 103 points, followed by St. Olaf (65), Bethel (45) and Carleton (44). SJU is sixth with 33 points, six behind Concordia-Moorhead in fifth.

The final day of competition is scheduled to begin with field events (triple jump) at 10:15 a.m., followed by action on the track (4x200-meter relay) at 1 p.m.

Senior Travis Spillum (Little Falls, Minn.) earned All-MIAC honors (top three individually, champion relay) with a third-place finish in the high jump. Junior Jordan Theisen (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Apollo) followed in 10th.

Senior Peyton Thiry (Lester Prairie, Minn./Lester Prairie-Holy Trinity) achieved his first All-MIAC honor indoors with a third-place finish in the 35-pound weight throw.

Sophomore Max Martin (Minneapolis, Minn./Wayzata) earned All-MIAC distinction with a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, 0.09 of a second ahead of junior Mitch Peck (Alexandria, Minn.) in fourth.

The Johnnies' distance medley relay (Joseph Rabaey, Martin, Will Zimmerman, Ryan Bugler) also finished third.

Freshman Jesse Audelo (Los Angeles, Calif./Cathedral) placed fifth in the 60-meter dash and sophomore Drew Schoenbauer (New Prague, Minn.) took eighth. Junior Colton Peterson (Cloquet, Minn./South Ridge) claimed ninth in the long jump.

Senior Sam Friesen (Excelsior, Minn./Minnetonka) and sophomore Kevin Lamb (Avon, Minn./Albany) finished 12th in the 5,000 meters and 800 meters, respectively.
