Johnnies Win Five Events at St. Olaf Invitational

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Saint John's won five events in the final tune-up before next week's MIAC Indoor Championships, the St. Olaf Invitational, on Saturday, Feb. 18, in Northfield. Team scores were not calculated.

The Johnnies recorded 23 top-eight finishes on the day.

The 2017 MIAC Indoor Championships are Friday (4 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m.), Feb. 24-25, at St. Thomas.

Freshman Jesse Audelo (Los Angeles, Calif./Cathedral) won the 200-meter dash (22.72) and took third in the 60-meter dash (7.113) after turning in the top preliminary time of 7.109 seconds.

Senior Will Zimmerman (Owatonna, Minn.) claimed first in the 800 meters (1:59.21) and classmate Paul Kohner (Pine Island, Minn.) followed in fifth (2:06.11).

Sophomore Max Martin (Minneapolis, Minn./Wayzata) and junior Mitch Peck (Alexandria, Minn.) went 1 (8.68)-2 (8.73) in the 60-meter hurdles.

Senior Travis Spillum (Little Falls, Minn.) won the high jump with a height of 1.91 meters and junior Jordan Theisen (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Apollo) followed in third (1.81 meters). Theisen also tied for fifth in the pole vault (4.46 meters). Freshman Thomas Franek (Montgomery, Minn./Tri-City United) finished third in the event (4.46 meters).

Junior Colton Peterson (Cloquet, Minn./South Ridge) placed second (6.45 meters) in the long jump and Spillum followed a foot behind in fourth (6.24 meters).

The Johnnies recorded three of the top four marks in the triple jump. Senior Raymond Twumasi (Coon Rapids, Minn.) won the event with a leap of 13.38 meters, while Peterson and freshman Collin Trout (Cloquet, Minn.) placed third (13.07 meters) and fourth (12.78 meters), respectively.

Senior Ryan Bugler (Okinawa, Japan/Kubasaki) placed fourth in the mile run (4:15.10) and classmate Peyton Thiry (Lester Prairie, Minn./Lester Prairie-Holy Trinity) took fourth in the weight throw (16.37 meters).
