COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's won nine events and recorded 11 second-place finishes to take first at its own four-team invitational on Saturday, Feb. 11, in the Donald McNeely Spectrum.
The host Johnnies totaled 162 points, followed by Concordia-Moorhead (75), Augsburg (70) and Minnesota-Morris (57).
Senior
Ryan Bugler (Okinawa, Japan/Kubasaki) took first by 12 seconds in the 3,000 meters, thanks to the second-best time in the MIAC so far (8:45.95), and senior
Will Zimmerman (Owatonna, Minn.) was the first of four Johnnies to cross the finish line in succession in the 600 meters (1:24.81).
Sophomore
Max Martin (Minneapolis, Minn./Wayzata) and junior
Mitch Peck (Alexandria, Minn.) went 1 (8.71)-2 (9.02) in the 60-meter hurdles.
Freshman
Jesse Audelo (Los Angeles, Calif./Cathedral) won the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 22.63 seconds, the second-fastest time in the MIAC this year.
The Johnnies claimed the top four marks in both the long jump and triple jump. Senior
Travis Spillum (Little Falls, Minn.) won the long jump with a leap of 6.29 meters, while classmate
Raymond Twumasi (Coon Rapids, Minn.) took first with a season-best distance in the triple jump (13.43 meters). Spillum and junior
Jordan Theisen (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Apollo) tied for first with a height of 1.80 meters in the high jump.
Senior
Peyton Thiry (Lester Prairie, Minn./Lester Prairie-Holy Trinity) won the weight throw (15.94) and senior
Maxwell Olson (Warrensburg, Mo.) placed first in the pole vault (4.57 meters). Both marks were season bests.
The Johnnies travel to compete at the St. Olaf Invitational, the final meet before the 2017 MIAC Indoor Championships Feb. 24-25 at St. Thomas, next Saturday, Feb. 18.
