COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's track and field opened its 2017 season by winning eight events against its alumni and Macalester on Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Donald McNeely Spectrum in Collegeville.
Senior
Ryan Bugler (Okinawa, Japan/Kubasaki) claimed first in the 800 meters (1:58.35), while four classmates placed first in field events:
Maxwell Olson (Warrensburg, Mo.) in the pole vault (4.12 meters);
Travis Spillum (Little Falls, Minn.) in the high jump (1.87 meters);
Peyton Thiry (Lester Prairie, Minn./Lester Prairie-Holy Trinity) in the weight throw (15.00 meters); and
Raymond Twumasi (Coon Rapids, Minn.) in the triple jump (13.12 meters).
Junior Mitchell Peck (Alexandria, Minn.) crossed the finish line first in the 60-meter hurdles (8.88), 0.02 of a second in front of sophomore
Max Martin (Minneapolis, Minn./Wayzata) in second.
Sophomore
Drew Schoenbauer (New Prague, Minn.) took first in the long jump (6.31 meters) and earned second-place finishes in both the 60-meter dash (7.10) and 200-meter dash (23.04).
Freshman
Jesse Audelo (Los Angeles, Calif./Cathedral) won the 200-meter dash (22.73) in his collegiate debut.
A pair of SJU alumni also won events Saturday.
Thomas Feichtinger '16 won the mile run (4:29.28) and Matt Scherber '14 took first in the 3,000 meters (9:03.43), 0:00.42 ahead of sophomore
Trey Collins (Plentywood, Mont./Royalton).
The Johnnies will see more of the Scots when they travel to St. Paul for the Macalester Triangular at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3.
