Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 on a 4.00 scale to qualify for Academic All-MIAC recognition. Athletically, tennis student-athletes must compete in 50 percent of their team's varsity, regular-season contests.
For the second time in the last three years, SJU led the conference with 63 male Academic All-MIAC honorees in 2015-16, six ahead of second-place St. Thomas (57). The Johnnies finished second in 2014-15, one honoree behind UST, and led the league with 57 in 2013-14.
A two-time All-MIAC honoree in doubles play and a three-time Academic All-MIAC honoree, Lahren collected a 13-6 (7-2 MIAC) doubles record in 2016, including a 10-2 (5-1 MIAC) tally at No. 2. He ended his career with an impressive 20-3 record in MIAC doubles play (35-15 overall), as well as a 21-18 (10-9 MIAC) record in singles competition. Lahren graduated May 8 with a 3.83 GPA in accounting.
Larson earned All-MIAC honors in both singles and doubles competition for the second consecutive season this spring. He recorded the most wins in conference play at No. 2 singles and was one of only three tennis student-athletes in the MIAC to appear in all nine league matches and post eight wins or more with an 8-1 record (14-6 overall) in 2016. An economics major with a 3.77 GPA, Larson also tallied a 9-10 record (5-4 MIAC) in doubles competition.
SJU ended the 2016 season with a 5-4 MIAC record (10-9 overall) to tie for fourth in the conference standings. The Johnnies earned their seventh trip to the MIAC Playoffs in the last 10 seasons and advanced to the semifinal round for the third straight appearance.
