COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – A pair of Saint John's University basketball student-athletes, senior post Jordan Peterson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and sophomore wing Patrick Strom (Fargo, N.D./Shanley), earned Academic All-MIAC honors on Tuesday, June 21.

Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 on a 4.00 scale to qualify for Academic All-MIAC recognition. Athletically, basketball student-athletes must compete in 50 percent of their team's varsity, regular-season contests. 

For the second time in the last three years, SJU led the conference with 63 male Academic All-MIAC honorees in 2015-16, six ahead of second-place St. Thomas (57). The Johnnies finished second in 2014-15, one honoree behind UST, and led the league with 57 in 2013-14.

Peterson appeared in all 27 games for SJU in 2015-16 and averaged 2.9 points and 2.2 rebounds in 12.4 minutes per game off the bench. Now a two-time Academic All-MIAC honoree, Peterson graduated May 8 with a 3.55 GPA in economics.

Strom also appeared in all 27 games, with 25 starts, and averaged 8.3 points per game. He finished third on the team with 51 three-pointers made and is an accounting major with a 3.78 GPA. His career shooting percentage from three-point range, .424 (95-for-224), is currently good for sixth in SJU history.

He was a member of the six-person CSB/SJU team that won a local competition against four other schools last fall in Minneapolis, including the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management. It was the second year in a row, and third time in the last five years, that the CSB/SJU team won the local competition. The victory earned them a trip to Chicago and the offices of Deloitte, one of the "Big Four" international audit firms. The CSB/SJU team toppled DePaul, Illinois, Iowa, Loyola-Chicago, Marquette, Nebraska and Wisconsin to win the regional competition after finishing second in the same event in 2014.

SJU finished third in the MIAC with a 13-7 record (19-8 overall) and earned its 23rd trip to the conference playoffs under the direction of first-year head coach Pat McKenzie '04 in 2015-16.
