Johnnies Provide Strong Showing at Spring Invitational

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's track and field recorded 13 top-three marks/times, including six wins, at its spring invitational on Sunday, April 10, at Clemens Stadium in Collegeville.

Junior Ryan Bugler (Okinawa, Japan/Kubasaki) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:45.99, the fastest in the MIAC this season.

Sophomore Travis Spillum (Little Falls, Minn.) and junior Raymond Twumasi (Coon Rapids, Minn.) both improved their season marks to take first (6.47 meters) and third (6.42 meters), respectively, in the long jump.

Sophomore Daniel Bruckbauer (Fargo, N.D./Shanley) made his track-and-field debut and led all Division III participants with a mark of 13.24 meters in the triple jump. Twumasi followed in second (12.73 meters) and sophomore Colton Peterson (Cloquet, Minn./South Ridge) took third (12.57 meters).

Freshman Kai Barber (Minneapolis, Minn./Totino-Grace) added 0.14 meters to his SJU freshman record to win the shot put with a toss of 15.69 meters, which is still third in the conference.

Senior Randy Perez (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta) also continued his success in the javelin throw, improving on last weekend's mark by 5.55 meters to win the event with a distance of 57.09 meters. The throw is the best in the MIAC this spring.

Freshman Drew Schoenbauer (New Prague, Minn.) finished second in the 100-meter dash with the Johnnies' fastest time this spring, 10.91 seconds.

Senior Thomas Feichtinger (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) took second in the 1,500 meters (4:02.38) and junior Peyton Thiry (Lester Prairie, Minn./Lester Prairie-Holy Trinity) finished third in the hammer throw (47.92 meters).

The Johnnies' 4x100-meter relay (43.34) and 4x400-meter relay (3:32.72) claimed first and second, respectively.

Day two of the SJU Decathlon is scheduled to begin at noon Monday, April 11, in Clemens Stadium. SJU did not have any individuals participating in the event.

The Johnnies are next up at the Concordia-St. Paul Invitational this Saturday, April 16. The meet is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Sea Foam Stadium.
