ETTRICK, Wis. – The Saint John's cross country team finished eighth out of 20 teams, sixth among four-year institutions, at the Wisconsin-La Crosse Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Ettrick G.C. in Ettrick, Wis.
Iowa Central C.C. won the 8k race with 23 points, followed by No. 6 Wisconsin-La Crosse (57), No. 12 St. Olaf (117) and Nebraska Wesleyan (139).
Senior
Ryan Bugler (Okinawa, Japan/Kubasaki) led SJU, which finished with 229 points, in eighth place out of the 369 runners. His time of 25:44 was 11 seconds behind the MIAC's top finisher, St. Olaf's Joe Coffey in seventh place.
Sophomore
Trey Collins (Plentywood, Mont./Royalton) crossed the finish line next for SJU in 49th (27:03). Seniors
Maxwell Kuzara (Deephaven, Minn./Minnetonka) and
Brandon Franta (La Crescent, Minn.) followed in 60th (27:18) and 64th (27:19), respectively, while junior
Matthew Burgstahler (Sandpoint, Idaho) rounded out the Johnnies' five in 72nd (27:24).
The Johnnies return to competition with the 2016 MIAC Championship on Saturday, Oct. 29. The men's race is scheduled for noon at Como Park G.C. in St. Paul.
