Johnnies Take Third at Luther Invitational

DECORAH, Iowa – The Saint John's cross country team opened its 2015 season with a third-place finish out of seven teams at the Luther All-American Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12, in Decorah, Iowa.

Augustana of Illinois won the event with 46 points, followed by Iowa Central C.C. (48), SJU (74) and the host Norse (101).

Senior Thomas Feichtinger (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) finished the four-mile race in 20:05 to claim fourth out of 148 runners. 

Junior Ryan Bugler (Okinawa, Japan/Kubasaki) followed in 12th (20:55), while seniors Preston Zimny (Royalton, Minn./Little Falls) and Jake Burr (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) took 18th (21:05) and 19th (21:07), respectively.

Sophomore Matthew Burgstahler (Sandpoint, Idaho) rounded out the Johnnies' five in 26th (21:24).

SJU returns to competition with a race against its alumni 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26. The race is scheduled to begin near Saint John's Prep (Water Tower).
