Young SJU Squad Takes Ninth at Mac Twilight

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's recorded 10 top-eight finishes and claimed ninth out of 16 teams at the Macalester Twilight on Thursday, April 23, in St. Paul.

Sophomore Raymond Twumasi (Coon Rapids, Minn.) led all Division III participants with a second-place finish in the triple jump (12.86 meters). Classmate Joe Koll (Winona, Minn./Cotter) followed in fourth (12.53 meters). Koll also recorded seventh-place finishes in the long jump (6.15 meters) and 110-meter hurdles (16.73).

Freshman Mitchell Peck (Alexandria, Minn.) finished third in the 400-meter hurdles (56.86), while junior Anthony Smith (Newark, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) took third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.81). Smith also placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (57.94).

Sophomore Peyton Thiry (Lester Prairie, Minn./Lester Prairie-Holy Trinity) finished fifth, second among Division III throwers, in the hammer throw (47.48 meters) and classmate Brandon Franta (La Crescent, Minn.) took sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:02.50).

Senior Yasin Williams (East Orange, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) crossed the finish line in eighth, fourth among Division III sprinters, in the 400 meters (51.41).

The Johnnies are scheduled to send three relay teams (distance medley, sprint medley and 4x800) to the Drake Relays on Friday-Saturday, April 24-25, in Des Moines, Iowa. The team returns to action at the Concordia-St. Paul Twilight on Wednesday, April 29.
