SJU T&F Travels to Moorhead for the MIAC Indoor Championships

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's won two events and recorded seven top-three finishes at the St. Olaf Qualifier on Feb. 27. Team scores were not calculated. Sophomore Ryan Kuester (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) won the 60-meter dash (7.14) and classmate Maxwell Olson (Warrensburg, Mo.) took first in the pole vault (4.55 meters), the fourth-best mark in the MIAC this season. Junior Thomas Feichtinger (Omaha, Neb./Mound Michael Benedictine) and sophomore Joe Koll (Winona, Minn./Cotter) finished second in the 3,000 meters (8:39.95) and long jump (6.46 meters), respectively. Sophomore Raymond Twumasi (Coon Rapids, Minn.) claimed second, first among Division III competitors, in the triple jump (13.43 meters). Twumasi's mark of 13.53 meters recorded last Saturday (Feb. 21) is still the top distance in the MIAC. Sophomore Peyton Thiry (Lester Prairie, Minn./Lester Prairie-Holy Trinity) placed second in the 35-pound weight throw (14.89 meters) and senior Yasin Williams (East Orange, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) took third in the 200-meter dash (22.99).

FINAL MIAC MARKS: The Johnnies currently boast 15 top-10 marks in the MIAC, including two No. 1's.

LAST YEAR'S MEET: Saint John's finished fourth out of 11 teams at last year's MIAC Indoor Championships held on the home track, the Donald McNeely Spectrum in Collegeville. St. Thomas won the meet with a total of 186 points, followed by St. Olaf (126), Hamline (115.5) and SJU (79). Williams missed the conference title in the 200 meters by 0.05 to finish second (22.49). The Johnnies' 800-meter relay (Patrick Means, Jordan Tradewell, Taylor Nauman, Williams) also finished second with a time of 1:30.61, 1.15 seconds from the title. Feichtinger earned his second All-MIAC honor (top three) in as many days with a third-place finish in the 1,000 meters (2:32.06). He won the conference championship in the 800 meters the previous night. Twumasi finished fifth in the triple jump (13.12 meters) and sophomore Tony Yost (Eden Prairie, Minn.) took seventh (14.17 meters) in the shot put, 0.31 meters (one foot ¼ inches) behind third and All-MIAC honors. Junior Jacob Peterson (Monticello, Minn.) followed in sixth (4,013). Thies took third (8.97) in the 60-meter hurdles, as part of the heptathlon, while Peterson claimed third (2:52.13) in the 1,000 meters.
