COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – KOOL-TV, based out of Alexandria, Minn., will produce tape-delayed broadcasts of all Saint John's University home football games in 2015, athletic director
Tom Stock announced on Friday, Feb. 6.
In addition, KOOL-TV will produce and air the 30-minute "
Gary Fasching Show" at 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday night during the football season. The tape-delayed home broadcasts will air after the coaches' show.
"This is a great opportunity to expose more people to our football program," SJU head coach
Gary Fasching said. "The wider the audience we can reach, the better it is for Saint John's, its alumni and prospective students."
Viewers outside of the KOOL-TV broadcast area will be able to watch the coaches' show and home-game broadcast as they are airing Tuesday nights on www.kooltv-mn.com. Neither broadcast will be archived online for future viewing.
The new television station began broadcasting over-the-air in mid-December, offering a mix of classic programs like "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Bonanza," and would like to expand its reach to central Minnesota.
SJU football games will again be webcast live on gojohnnies.com and the "Football Weekly" radio show with Mark Lewandowski, broadcast by The Bear WBHR-660 AM, will also continue in 2015. The show airs from 7-8 p.m. each Wednesday during the football season and includes Fasching, an SJU assistant coach, an SJU football student-athlete and a local high school head coach.
The Johnnies ended the 2014 football season ranked No. 12 in the final D3football.com and American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) polls. SJU advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs and finished with a 10-2 overall record, including a 7-1 mark in MIAC play to claim the program's 32nd conference championship. It was the Johnnies' first MIAC title and first Division III playoff appearance since the 2009 season. SJU is expected to return 16 of its 24 starters (eight on offense, six on defense and both special-teams specialists) next fall.
