DECORAH, Iowa – Saint John's opened its 2014 cross-country season with a second-place finish out of seven teams at the Luther All-American Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13, in Decorah, Iowa.
Iowa Central C.C. won the four-mile race with 42 points, followed by SJU (67) and a tie between a team of Luther alumni and Hamline with 72 points.
Five juniors were the first to cross the finish line for SJU.
Thomas Feichtinger (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) led the Johnnies with a fourth-place finish, third among collegiate runners, with a time of 20:45. Classmates
Preston Zimny (Royalton, Minn./Little Falls),
Caleb LeClaire (Rogers, Minn.) and
Andrew Hansen (Eden Prairie, Minn.) followed in 14th (21:10), 15th (21:17) and 16th (21:19), respectively.
Jake Burr (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) rounded out the Johnnies' five in 18th (21:23).
The Johnnies return to action in two weeks at the University of Minnesota's Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 27. The men's race is scheduled for 10:40 a.m. at the Les Bolstad G.C. in Falcon Heights.
