Johnnies Record Three MIAC Bests, Win Meet of Saints

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Saint John's finished first out of four teams at the annual Meet of Saints on Saturday, May 3, on the campus of St. Olaf in Northfield.

SJU won five events and posted eight second-place finishes for a total of 255 points, followed by the host Oles (224), St. Thomas (132) and Carleton (75).

Sophomore Thomas Feichtinger (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) won the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.26, the fastest time in the MIAC this spring. Junior Nick Welshons (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) took first in the high jump (1.95 meters) and classmate Chase Myhran (Orono, Minn.) won the long jump with the MIAC's best mark of the season, a leap of 7.02 meters.

Sophomore Zach Roy (Andover, Minn.) and freshman Raymond Twumasi (Coon Rapids, Minn.) went 1 (13.66 meters)-2 (13.63 meters) in the triple jump. Both marks are at the top of the MIAC heap this spring. Senior Alex Trujillo (Davenport, Minn./Central), meanwhile, led four Johnnies in the 10,000 meters (34:14.24).

Senior John Subialka (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) placed second in the 1,500 meters (3:59.63) and freshman Ryan Kuester (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) finished second in the 100-meter dash (11.06).

Sophomore Matt Devery (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) scored a second-place finish in the pole vault (4.18 meters), while senior Rob Sybrant (Shakopee, Minn.) and freshman Dustin Gill (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) second in the shot put (13.74 meters) and discus (44.04 meters), respectively.

The Johnnies' 4x400-meter relay team (Michael Richter, Will Zimmerman, Kyle Rossow, Thomas Feichtinger) took second (3:26.88).

SJU returns to St. Olaf's Manitou Track for the 2014 MIAC Outdoor Championships next Friday and Saturday, May 9-10, in Northfield.
