Balance Carries SJU to Triangular Win

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's finished first in a triangular with two other MIAC schools on Saturday, April 12, in Collegeville.

The Johnnies won nine events and totaled 160.5 points, followed by Hamline (121) and Carleton (85.5).

Senior John Subialka (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) was the first of six Johnnies to cross the finish line in the 1,500 meters (4:04.16).

Another Wayzata product, junior Nick Welshons (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata), won the high jump with a mark of 1.90 meters.

Junior Chase Myhran (Orono, Minn.) finished first in the long jump (6.54 meters) and freshman Jordan Theisen (St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) took first in the pole vault (4.30 meters).

A pair of freshmen, Quinn Anderson (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) and Dustin Gill (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson), won the shot put (13.94 meters) and discus (42.61 meters), respectively.

Junior David Kahat (Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View) won the javelin with a throw of 51.87 meters.

SJU won both relays on the day. The 4x100-meter relay team (Patrick Means, Ryan Kuester, Jordan Tradewell, Yasin Williams) posted a time of 42.37 seconds, 0.59 faster than the team's best time last year. The 4x400-meter relay (Drake Osterhout, Thomas Feichtinger, Nick Zurn, Jordan Tradewell) won with a time of 3:23.85.

The Johnnies wrap up the two-day SJU Decathlon Sunday and return to competition at the St. Thomas Twilight at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at O'Shaughnessy Stadium in St. Paul.
