SJU's Wilson Named MIAC Special Teams Athlete of the Week

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University freshman linebacker Daerek Wilson (San Antonio, Texas/Reagan) was named the MIAC Special Teams Athlete of the Week on Monday, Oct. 27.

Wilson blasted through the center of the Carleton line and blocked a punt, on the opening possession of the second half, in the 52-3 win over the Knights Oct. 25 in Collegeville. SJU took over on the 7-yard line and scored a touchdown two plays later to gain a 35-3 lead.

Wilson has appeared in all seven games this season and has seven tackles (four solo), including a half tackle for a loss and a quarterback hurry.

The Johnnies (6-1, 4-1 MIAC), who are ranked as high as No. 19 in the latest D3football.com poll, travel to face Augsburg (3-4, 2-3 MIAC) for a 1 p.m. contest this Saturday, Nov. 1, at Edor Nelson Field in Minneapolis.
