Granath Earns Capital One Academic All-America Honors

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Recent Saint John's University graduate Dennis Granath (Bandhagen, Sweden/Farsta Gymnasium) was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Men's At-Large third team on Tuesday, June 4.

The 2012 MIAC Player of the Year, Granath ended his collegiate career with a three-under par 68, the best individual score of the day, to finish tied for 10th with a four-day total of 292 (+7) and earn his third consecutive All-America honor at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship May 14-17.

Granath ended his career with a 74.6 stroke average in 87 rounds, 23 of which were at par or below (26.4 percent), with 20 top-10 finishes and three tournament wins. He was a three-time GCAA All-Region selection and a two-time GCAA All-America Scholar. Granath graduated in May with a 3.41 GPA in management (spring-semester grades were not submitted when the nomination was processed).

The Johnnies finished sixth out of 41 teams at the national tournament in Destin, Fla. SJU has now finished no lower than eighth with two national titles (2007 and 2008) in each of its last six national-tournament appearances.

In order to be eligible for Capital One Academic All-District and Academic All-America recognition, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, maintain a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA and a starter or key reserve on his team. The men's at-large category includes student-athletes that participate in fencing, golf, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, men's volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
