NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Saint John's allowed a pair of goals in the game's first 8:18 in a 2-0 loss at St. Olaf to open the conference schedule on Friday, Nov. 15, in Northfield.
St. Olaf (1-4, 1-0 MIAC) gained a 2-0 first-period lead with a power-play goal 3:11 into the game from David Rath and an even-strength tally 5:07 later from Dan Cecka.
SJU (2-3, 0-1 MIAC) out-shot STO 21-20 in the game, including a 10-1 advantage in the third period. The Johnnies entered the contest averaging 29.2 shots per game and continued to struggle on the power play, going 0-for-4.
The Oles were out-scored 19-6 and out-shot by a combined 41 shots through the season's first four games.
Sophomore Saxton Soley (Elk Mound, Wis.) made 18 saves in the loss.
The Johnnies play host to the Oles for their home opener, and Youth Hockey Night, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. All area youth hockey players wearing his or her jersey gains free admittance, as well as youth students that bring a canned item for the local food shelf. An open skate with the Johnnies is also scheduled following the game.
