ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's ran its unbeaten streak to six games (3-0-3 record) with a 5-1 win over Hamline on Saturday, Jan. 26, in St. Cloud.

Sophomore Phil Johnson (Duluth, Minn.) posted a four-point game (1g/3a) and classmate John Haeg (Lakeville, Minn.) tallied two goals as SJU (9-6-4, 4-3-3 MIAC) erupted for three goals in a 5:11 span during the third period to break the game open.

Haeg put the Johnnies on the scoreboard with a shorthanded goal at the 9:52 mark of the first period, with assists going to junior Trent Johnson (Duluth, Minn.) and Phil Johnson.

Following a scoreless second period, junior Jason Johnson (Duluth, Minn.) made it 2-0 with his fourth goal of the year 8:02 into the third. Phil Johnson and senior Jascha Pettit (Wadena, Minn.) were credited with the assists.

Jordan Johnson cut Hamline's (1-15-5, 1-8-3 MIAC) deficit to 2-1 with a sharp-angle shot a few feet from the end line 2:11 later.

Haeg padded the Johnnies' lead with an unassisted goal, his ninth tally of the season, a minute later.

Sophomore Nick Senta (Savage, Minn.) made it 4-1 with an empty-net goal, shorthanded, with 4:14 left. Phil Johnson won the faceoff and passed it directly to Senta, who ripped a shot from center-ice.

Phil Johnson ended the scoring with his seventh goal of the year 38 seconds later. Pettit and junior Axel Ramsgard (Gothenburg, Sweden) tallied the assists.

Freshman Saxton Soley (Elk Mound, Wis.) made 19 saves to improve to 8-3-1 on the season. He has now allowed one goal in each of his last four games (0.98 GAA and a .957 save percentage).

SJU out-shot the Pipers 31-20, including a 15-4 advantage in the opening period. The home team killed off all seven HU power plays and now touts the MIAC's top penalty kill at 97 percent (32-for-33) in 10 conference games (21-for-21 on the penalty kill in its last seven games).

The Johnnies continue their homestand with a pair of home games against Saint Mary's on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2. Senior Night is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, followed by a 2 p.m. puck-drop Saturday at the National Hockey and Events Center in St. Cloud.
