COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's junior forward Tobias Linbro (Nykvarn, Sweden) was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Men's At-Large first team on Thursday, May 17.
A two-time Academic All-MIAC honoree (min. 3.50 GPA) and an assistant captain as a junior, Linbro tallied nine points (2g/7a) in 24 games for the Johnnies in 2011-12. He enters his senior season with 23 points (7g/16a), a plus/minus o f+5 and only seven penalties in 59 career games.
Linbro and the other Capital One Academic All-District first-team selections are eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America team, which is scheduled to be announced in early June.
A two-sport athlete, Linbro appeared in five SJU soccer matches, including one start, before hockey practice started last fall. He is an economics major with a 3.92 GPA.
SJU finished third in the MIAC with a 9-7 record and made its first postseason appearance since the 2007-08 season. The Johnnies were predicted to finish eighth out of nine teams in the MIAC Preseason Coaches' poll last fall. SJU led the MIAC with a 27.0-percent conversion rate on the power play, its highest mark since the 1997-98 season (27.0 percent, 24-for-89). Head coach Doug Schueller is expected to return 94 percent of the season's points (202 of 215) in 2012-13.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-District and Academic All-America recognition, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, maintain a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA and is a starter or key reserve on his or her team. The men's at-large category includes student-athletes that participate in fencing, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, men's volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
