MOORHEAD, Minn. – Concordia shot 68.8 percent (11-for-16) from three-point range in the first half en route to an 89-64 win over Saint John's on Saturday, Jan. 21, in Moorhead.
The Cobbers (7-10, 5-7 MIAC) made eight of their first 12 shots, including five of their first six three-pointers, to take an early 21-6 lead less than seven minutes into the game. The Johnnies, meanwhile, missed nine of their first 11 shots (1-for-6 from three-point). Concordia led by as much as 22 in the first half and 29 with less than five minutes left to play.
Senior Aaron Barmore (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) led SJU (9-7, 5-6 MIAC) with 14 points, while sophomore Seth Marx (Maple Grove, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) added 12 points, all on three-pointers (4-for-9).
Andrew Martinson led Concordia with 27 points on 9-for-10 shooting (6-for-7 from beyond the arc) off the bench. He entered the game averaging 5.9 points per game with a .363 shooting percentage (.333 three-point). The Cobbers entered the contest with a .299 three-point shooting percentage as a team.
SJU is now 68-30 against the Cobbers under the direction of head coach Jim Smith, but 25-25 in Moorhead, including losses in each of the last five trips to Memorial Auditorium.
The Johnnies continue a stretch of long road trips this Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Saint Mary's. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at SMU Gym in Winona.
