SJU Returns to Win Column With 6-3 Decision at Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's brought its MIAC skid to a halt with a 6-3 win at Hamline on Wednesday, April 13.

SJU (7-6, 1-5 MIAC) dropped two of its three doubles matches, but won five of the six singles matches, including three via super-breaker.

Sophomore Fabricio Moncada (Managua, Nicaragua/Lincoln International Academy) improved to 6-3 (3-3 MIAC) at No. 1 singles with a straight-set (6-3, 6-2) win, while junior Ian Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd)  earned a 6-1, 5-7 and 10-3 win at No. 2.

Senior Elliott Elm (Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels) and sophomore Zach Shriwise (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley West) posted tough, back-to-back wins at Nos. 5 and 6 singles. Both needed 11 points to carry the super-breaker.

Sophomore Willie Paul (Duluth, Minn./Marshall) earned his first collegiate win with a straight-set (7-5, 6-1) victory at No. 6.

Elm and Shriwise won the Johnnies' lone doubles match at No. 2, 8-6.

The Johnnies play host to St. Thomas for a 4 p.m. match this Friday, April 15, at the SJU Tennis Courts in Collegeville (weather permitting, otherwise Gold's Gym in Sartell).
