COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Eight Saint John's University track and field student athletes earned a total of 11 2009-10 Winter and Spring Academic All-MIAC honors on Thursday, July 8:  seniors David Bernardy (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Irondale) and Tyler Etheridge (Eau Claire, Wis./North), juniors Jimmy Backes (Lakeville, Minn./South), Tom Hoffman (Mahtomedi, Minn.), Dan Maxbauer (Traverse City, Mich./St. Francis) and Andrew Norman (Maple Grove, Minn.), and sophomores Rob Floren (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo) and Logan Schwinghammer (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen).

At the MIAC Indoor Championships, Maxbauer and Bernardy finished third and fourth, respectively, in the pentathlon, while Etheridge and Backes combined to push the Johnnies to a third-place finish in the distance-medley relay. Norman garnered his third career All-MIAC honor to go along with his second All-MIAC Academic honor with a second-place finish in the pole vault. Schwinghammer managed a seventh-place finish for the Johnnies in the 55-meter hurdles.

At the MIAC Outdoor Championships, Etheridge again helped power a relay to All-MIAC honors, this time combining with Hoffman on the Johnnies' second-place 4 x 800 meter relay team.  Maxbauer produced another strong result in the multi-events, finishing sixth in the decathlon.  Floren, a two-time honoree, claimed fourth place in the long jump.  Schwinghammer improved upon his indoor performance and placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles.

The Johnnies as a team finished seventh (indoor) and sixth (outdoor) at the MIAC Championships in head coach Tim Miles' 31st season.
