COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Two Saint John’s University basketball student-athletes earned 2009-10 Winter and Spring Academic All-MIAC honors on Thursday, July 8: sophomore Patrick Bowlin (Winona, Minn./Cotter) and sophomore Bennett Vathing (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong).
Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 on a 4.00 scale to qualify for Academic All-MIAC recognition. Athletically, basketball student-athletes must compete in 50 percent of their team’s varsity regular season contests.
Bowlin played in all 20 MIAC games for the Johnnies and collected 13 assists while averaging 8.1 minutes per game. He is an elementary education major with a 3.92 GPA.
A junior academically, Vathing played in 13 games and averaged 5.8 minutes per game for SJU. He is an accounting major with a 3.52 GPA.
SJU finished sixth in the MIAC with an 11-9 record and a 14-12 record overall. The Johnnies earned their fifth consecutive trip to the MIAC Playoffs and their 18th overall. Head coach Jim Smith ended his 46th season with a 713-499 (.588) career record.
