COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John’s finished first out of four teams at the annual Meet of Saints held Saturday, May, 8, in Collegeville.

The Johnnies claimed 12 top-two finishes enroute to a total of 274.5 points, followed by St. Thomas (205.5), Concordia-Moorhead (110.0) and St. Olaf (72.0).

Senior Josh Wallert (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) won the 100 meters (11.09) and finished second in the 200 meters (22.58).

Juniors Dustin Franta (La Crescent, Minn.) and David Forster (Hopkins, Minn.) finished first (4:09.68) and second (4:10.15), respectively, in the 1,500 meters.

Freshman Matt Scherber (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen)  claimed second (15:53.45) in the 5,000 meters, while fellow freshman Andrew Million (Lino Lakes, Minn./Totino-Grace) took second (6.24 meters) in the long jump.

Junior Andrew Norman (Maple Grove, Minn.) won the pole vault with a height of 4.58 meters) and freshman Tyler Martin (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) finished second (12.75 meters) in the triple jump.

Sophomore Wade Powers (Hawick, Minn./New London-Spicer) won discus with a throw of 47.93 meters and took second in both the hammer throw (44.90 meters) and shot put (13.74 meters).

Junior Tim Juba (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) won the hammer throw competition with a toss of 54.31 meters.

SJU returns to action this Friday and Saturday, May 14-15, at the 2010 MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships held on the campus of Saint Mary’s in Winona.
