Members of the Saint John's track and field team travel to Carleton to compete in the MIAC Decathlon this Thursday and Friday, May 6-7. The meet is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, followed by a 10 a.m. start on Friday in Northfield. The Johnnies then host the annual Meet of Saints at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, in Collegeville.
A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's recorded eight Top-Three finishes at the MSU-Moorhead Invitational last weekend. Senior Patrick Lowder (Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska), junior David Forster (Hopkins, Minn.) and sophomore Andrew Clasen (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) finished first (9:39.48), second (9:46.15) and third (9:49.08), respectively, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Junior Tim Juba (Cottage Grove, Minn.) claimed third-place honors in the hammer throw with an NCAA-provisional toss of 54.15 meters, which is the third-best mark in the MIAC this season. Senior Josh Wallert (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) finished third in the 100-meter dash (11.17), while fellow seniors Tyler Etheridge (Eau Claire, Wis./North) and Joe Kilkus (Winona, Minn./Cotter) claimed third in the 800 (1:57.03) and 5,000 meters (16:03.30), respectively. Sophomore Ruairi Moynihan (Fargo, N.D./South) also took third, in the 1,500 meters, with a time of 4:01.75.
LAST YEAR'S MIAC DECATHLON: Last year, junior Dan Maxbauer (Traverse City, Mich./St. Francis) finished seventh in the decathlon with a total of 5,554 points.
LAST YEAR'S MEET OF SAINTS: The Johnnies claimed six wins at last year's meet. Junior Matt Reeve (Fairmont, Minn.) won the 110-meter hurdles (15.52) and javelin throw (46.50 meters), respectively, while Lowder won the steeplechase with a time of 9:37.84. Juba, meanwhile, finished won the discus throw with a distance of 41.79 meters. SJU's 4 x400-meter relay team also claimed first-place honors with a time of 3:23.32.
2010 MEET OF SAINTS: In addition to the Johnnies, other teams competing on Saturday include Concordia-Moorhead, St. Olaf and St. Thomas.
