Track and Field Claims Third at Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's finished third out of 19 teams at the Macalester Twilight on Wednesday, April 21, in St. Paul.

Minnesota won the meet with 159 points, followed by Concordia-St. Paul (85), SJU (70.5), Michigan Tech (63) and Hamline (59).

The Johnnies claimed 12 top-seven finishes, including wins in two events.

Senior Patrick Lowder (Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) won the 24-participant 3,000-meter steeplechase with a season-best time of 9:35.13. Junior David Forster (Hopkins, Minn.) followed in fourth with a time of 9:39.66.

Sophomore Ruairi Moynihan (Fargo, N.D./South) won the 5,000-meter run with the third-best time in the MIAC so far this season, 15:04.46.

Freshmen Brian Peterson (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) and Tyler Martin (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) claimed third (12.84 meters) and fourth (12.80 meters), respectively, in the triple jump. Peterson also took seventh in the long jump (6.42 meters).

Junior Dustin Franta (La Crescent, Minn.) claimed sixth in the 10,000-meter run (31:55.55), while

Junior Andrew Norman (Maple Grove, Minn.) placed sixth in the pole vault with a height of 4.56 meters and junior Griffin Hayes (Mendota Heights, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) claimed sixth in the discus with a throw of 44.91 meters. Sophomore Logan Schwinghammer (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) and senior Josh Wallert (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) also finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.10) and 100-meter dash (11.45), respectively.

Freshman Lucas Boehm (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) claimed seventh-place in the 400-meter dash (51.38).

The Johnnies host Concordia-Moorhead and Hamline at the SJU Invitational this Sunday, April 25. The meet is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Clemens Stadium in Collegeville.
