COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Four Saint John’s University basketball student-athletes earned 2010 All-MIAC honors on Thursday, March 4. Junior forward Aaron Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) was named All-MIAC for the second consecutive season and junior wing Sam Blank (Rollingstone, Minn./Winona Cotter) was named the MIAC Sixth Man of the Year. Blank and sophomore point guard Andy Burns (Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) were named honorable mention. Sophomore wing Aaron Barmore (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

Burtzel started all 26 games and led the Johnnies in scoring (13.6 ppg.) and the MIAC (conference games only) in shooting percentage (.673, 107-159) and assists (4.85 apg.). He also finished second in both rebounding (9.8 rpg.) and minutes played (35.60 mpg.), and third in steals (1.75 spg.). Burtzel recorded 11 double-doubles, including two triple-doubles, in 2009-10.

Blank played in all 26 games and averaged 10.1 points per game in just two starts for the Johnnies. He led SJU in scoring six times and tallied three 20-point games.

Burns led the MIAC (conference games only) in three-point shooting (.500, 34-68) and finished second on the team with 96 assists. Barmore, meanwhile, finished second on the team with a .560 shooting percentage (89-159) in 25 starts.

SJU’s season came to an end Feb. 23 with an 86-75 loss at Augsburg in the MIAC playoffs.  SJU finished sixth in the MIAC with an 11-9 record and a 14-12 record overall.  Head coach Jim Smith ended his 46th season with a 713-499 (.588) career record.
