Johnnies Earn Two Wins in Winona

Saint Mary's Results | Ripon Results

WINONA, Minn. – Saint John’s picked up two wins, including its first MIAC win of the season, on Saturday, March 13, in Winona. The Johnnies (6-4, 1-2 MIAC) defeated conference-foe Saint Mary’s 5-4 before blanking Ripon (Wis.) 9-0 later in the afternoon.

SJU earned four victories in singles competition to defeat the host Cardinals. Freshman Fabricio Moncada (Managua, Nicaragua/Lincoln International Academy) and sophomore Ian Hansen (Dawson, Minn./Dawson-Boyd) earned straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively, while seniors Luke Odegaard (Forest Lake, Minn.) and Tyler McKay (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall) picked up wins at Nos. 5-6. Hansen and Moncada then teamed-up to record an 8-2 decision at No. 2 doubles.

The Johnnies swept all nine matches, including two forfeits, in the nightcap. Freshmen Taylor Curtis (Bloomington, Minn./Holy Family Catholic) and Zach Shriwise (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley West) earned their first collegiate singles victories in the win.

SJU returns to action Sunday, March 28, against St. Cloud State. The match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Gold’s Gym in Sartell.
