COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Saint John's University senior goaltender Stu Van Ess (Kewaskum, Wis.) was named the MIAC Men's Hockey Co-Player of the Week on Monday, Feb. 1.

Van Ess kept the Johnnies’ MIAC Playoff hopes alive with a .954 save percentage and a 1.44 GAA in the Johnnies’ three-point weekend against Concordia. He made 37 saves, including 15 on the power play, in the 7-2 win Saturday. He followed that performance with 25 saves in the 1-1 overtime tie Sunday afternoon. The Cobbers were a combined 2-for-13 on the power play in the series (1-or-3 with a 5-on-3).

Van Ess currently leads the MIAC (conference games only) in both save percentage (.929) and GAA (1.94). He has a 4-5-3 career record with a .910 save percentage and a 2.55 GAA in 11 career starts in net.

SJU returns to action this Thursday, Feb. 4, against nationally-ranked Hamline. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
