SJU ends its fall season with a pair of competitions this weekend. The junior varsity team, SJU Blue, will compete at Gustavus Adolphus' Twin Cities Classic this Saturday-Monday, Oct. 9-11. The varsity team, meanwhile, will travel to Greensboro, N.C., to compete at the Gordin Classic. The event is scheduled to include numerous top 10 teams and will be held at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, which is also the site for the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship this May.

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: No. 5 Saint John's won its sixth MIAC Men's Golf Championship in the last seven years with a three-day total of 892 (+28) on Oct. 4. The title clinched the Johnnies' 12th consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Championship May 10-13 in Greensboro, N.C. Junior Tony Krogen (Marshall, Minn.), last year's medalist and MIAC Player of the Year, fired a two-under par 70 during Monday's final round to lead the Johnnies with a three-day total of 221 (+5) and tie for third overall. Sophomore Dennis Granath (Bandhagen, Sweden/Farsta Gymnasium) followed closely with a 224 (+8) to claim sixth. Junior Alex Klehr (Mankato, Minn./West) and freshman Casey Vangsness (Alexandria, Minn.) tallied a 78 (+6) each to tie for ninth overall (227, +11). Sophomore Mark Giorgi (Red Wing, Minn.) rounded out the Johnnies' five with a 229 (+13) to tie for 13th. Krogen, Granath, Klehr and Vangsness earned All-MIAC recognition (Top 10 individuals, including ties).
2010 TWIN CITIES CLASSIC: In addition to SJU Blue and the host Gusties, other schools scheduled to compete include Augsburg, Bemidji State, Bethel, Buena Vista (Iowa), Carthage (Wis.), Central (Iowa), Concordia-Moorhead, Concordia-St. Paul, Illinois Wesleyan, Luther (Iowa), Macalester, Manitoba, St. Cloud State, St. Olaf, St. Thomas, Wartburg (Iowa) and Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The first round will be held at the Elk River Country Club in Elk River, followed by the second round at the Links at Northfork in Ramsey. Monday's final round will be held at the Wayzata Country Club in Wayzata.
2010 GORDIN CLASSIC: The SJU Varsity team will travel to compete at the prestigious Gordin Classic in Greensboro, N.C., this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10-11. Invitations are given to the teams who finish in the top 11 at the previous year's NCAA Division III Golf Championship. In addition to SJU (No. 5), other teams scheduled to attend include Bridgewater (Va., rv), Centre (Ky., No. 13), Christopher Newport (Va., rv), Emory (Ga., T-No. 15), Greensboro (N.C., No. 1), Guilford (N.C., No. 7), Huntingdon (Ala., No. 2), LaGrange (Ga., rv), Methodist (N.C., No. 3), Nebraska Wesleyan (T-No. 15), Oglethorpe (Ga., No. 9), Ohio Wesleyan (No. 22), Otterbein (Ohio, rv), Rhodes (Tenn., No. 17), Skidmore (N.Y., No. 4), Transylvania (Pa., No. 18) and Wisconsin-Stout (No. 23).
