COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Five Saint John's University baseball student-athletes earned 2008-09 Winter and Spring Academic All-MIAC honors June 25: junior pitcher Andrew Aebly (Madison, Wis./Edgewood), freshman outfielder Matt Boys (Eden Prairie, Minn./Minnetonka), junior infielder Joe Eiden (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace), sophomore pitcher Brett Kramer (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) and senior pitcher Alex Wahl (Plymouth, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret’s).
Aebly posted a 2-0 record with a 2.77 ERA in 39 innings of work in 2009. Opponents batted .239 in his 12 appearances (three starts). Aebly is a chemistry major with a 3.55 GPA.
A sophomore academically, Boys batted .260 and led the Johnnies in triples (3) and stolen bases (10). Boys is a management major with a 3.94 GPA.
A two-time Academic All-MIAC honoree, Eiden batted .284 and appeared in all 31 games for the Johnnies. Eiden is a political science major with a 3.60 GPA.
Kramer led all SJU pitchers in games started (9) and strikeouts (26) this spring. Kramer is a biology major (pre-physical therapy emphasis) with a 3.79 GPA.
A relief pitcher in 2007 and 2008, Wahl led the Johnnies with 48 innings pitched in 10 appearances (eight starts). An accounting and economics double-major with a 3.76 GPA, Wahl posted a 3-5 record in ’09.
The Johnnies ended the season with a 12-20 overall record and a 7-13 record in the MIAC. SJU head coach Jerry Haugen ended his 32nd season four wins shy of 600 for his career with a 596-519-5 record.
Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 on a 4.00 scale to qualify for Academic All-MIAC recognition. Athletically, student-athletes in basketball, hockey, baseball, softball and tennis must compete in 50 percent of their team’s varsity regular season contests. Swimming & diving and track & field student-athletes must qualify for the conference finals to be eligible.
