Buss Earns All-America Honors for Fifth Time, SJU Ties for 44th Overall

MARIETTA, Ohio – Saint John's University senior Eric Buss (Coon Rapids, Minn.) ended his career by earning All-America honors for the fifth time in his career, all in the triple jump (two indoor, three outdoor), with a sixth-place finish (14.78 meters) at the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships on Saturday, May 23. SJU tied for 44th out of 81 teams with a total of seven points.
Senior Brayden Wagner (Englevale, N.D./Lisbon) earned All-America honors for the second time in as many days with a sixth-place finish in the decathlon at the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships on Friday. Wagner earned SJU's first All-America performance in the pole vault with an eighth-place finish (4.76 meters) on Thursday.
Wagner entered the second day of competition in 11th place out of 17 participants but won the 1,500-meter run (4:27.80) and finished second in the pole vault (4.55 meters) to climb into the top eight on Friday.
Sophomore Griffin Hayes (Mendota Heights, Minn./St. Thomas Academy) posted a throw of 47.06 meters in the discus but failed to qualify for the finals by .53 meters.
