NAPERVILLE, Ill. – A number of Johnnies traveled to Illinois to participate in North Central’s “last chance” meet Thursday and Friday, May 14-15.
Junior Patrick Lowder (Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) provisionally qualified for next week’s NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships with a fourth-place finish (9:20.38) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Senior Eric Buss (Coon Rapids, Minn.) posted another provisional mark of 14.29 meters in the triple jump to claim third and finished ninth in the long jump (6.56 meters).
Sophomore Andrew Norman (Maple Grove, Minn.) finished 10th in the pole vault with a height of 4.65 meters, while senior Brayden Wagner (Englevale, N.D./Lisbon) tied for 15th at 4.45 meters.
Senior Zach Hunter (Billings, Mont.) and junior Joe Kilkus (Winona, Minn./Cotter) finished eighth (32:28.41)and 12th (34:41.65), respectively, in the 10,000-meter run, while sophomore Matt Reeve (Fairmont, Minn.) claimed 15th in the 110-meter hurdles (15.45).
Freshman Josh Wallert (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) and sophomore Nick Murray (Colorado Springs, Colo./St. Mary’s) claimed 11th (11.25) and 13th (11.28), respectively, in the 100-meter dash, while senior Jeremy Crowley (Iona, Minn./Fulda) finished 16th (11.41). Wallert also finished 17th (22.82) in the 200-meter dash.
Senior Chris Hartman (Perry, Iowa) finished 17th in the 400-meter hurdles (56.95) and senior Dusty Clintsman (Maplewood, Minn./Hill-Murray) finished 20th in the javelin with a throw of 43.66 meters. Senior Ben Loonan (Shakopee, Minn.) finished 21st in the 400-meter hurdles.
LA CROSSE, Wis. – Members of the Saint John’s track and field team competed at an NCAA Qualifier hosted by Wis.-La Crosse on Thursday, May 14. No team scores were kept.
Senior Mitch Gesell (Alexandria, Minn.) and sophomore Tom Hoffman (Mahtomedi, Minn.) finished fourth (1:51.94) and fifth (1:52.87) in the 800 meters, while sophomore Griffin Hayes (Mendota Heights, Minn.) took sixth in the discus with a throw of 49.15 meters. Hayes also took 14th (14.12 meters) in the shot put.
The Johnnies’ 400-meter relay team consisting of Gesell, Hoffman, senior Ben Kitt (Alexandria, Minn.) and freshman Caleb Schwecke (Corcoran, Minn./Rockford) finished eighth with a time of 3:18.34.
Sophomore Tim Juba (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) finished 10th and 14th in the hammer throw (49.91 meters) and shot put (41.77 meters), respectively.
