Seven Johnnies Named to 2009 NFF Hampshire Honor Society

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Seven Saint John’s University football student-athletes were named to the 2009 National Football Foundation & College Football Hall of Fame Hampshire Honor Society on Thursday, April 23.
The student-athletes must either be a starter or a significant substitute in one's last year of eligibility, achieve a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout the entire course of undergraduate study, and meeting all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.
- Senior defensive lineman Eric Buss (Coon Rapids, Minn.): mathematics and physics double-major
- Senior linebacker Alex Coughlin (La Crosse, Wis./Aquinas): communication
- Senior offensive lineman Dan Gamache (Rush City, Minn.): nursing
- Senior defensive lineman Joe Luke (Alexandria, Minn.): biology
- Senior tight end Brett Saladin (Woodstock, Ill.): psychology
- Senior running back Jeff Schnobrich (New Ulm, Minn./Cathedral): political science
- Senior defensive lineman Mike Schumacher (Arden Hills, Minn./Totino-Grace): accounting
SJU ended the 2008 season with an 8-3 overall record and a 6-2 record in the MIAC. The Johnnies earned its MIAC-record 30th conference championship, the 26th title under the direction head coach John Gagliardi, and made their 23rd postseason appearance (19th appearance in the NCAA Division III playoffs). Gagliardi ended his record 60th season with a 461-125-11 (.781) career record and a 437-119-10 (.781) record in 56 seasons at SJU.
