ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Hamline snapped Saint John's four-game winning streak with a 4-1 victory Saturday, Feb. 14 in St. Cloud.

It looked as though SJU would take a 1-0 lead near the 10-minute mark of the opening period when junior forward Gabriel Harren (Warroad, Minn.) snuck the puck underneath Hamline goaltender Beau Christian. The goal judge, however, overruled the official and waved off the goal.

Chris Berenguer tallied the first of his two power-play goals on the afternoon two minutes later to give the Pipers a 1-0 lead. Jared Hummel increased the lead to 2-0 with another power-play tally at the 17:40 mark of the first, as the Pipers were two of three with the man advantage in the period.

Following a scoreless second, Berenguer scored his second power-play goal of the game 2:33 into the third.

Senior forward Jake Hipp (Bismarck, N.D.) put SJU (9-13-1, 6-7-1 MIAC) on the scoreboard with his 11th goal of the season at the 7:06 mark. Senior forward Pat Connelly (Birchwood, Minn.) and senior defenseman Clayton Rehm (Park Rapids, Minn.) were credited with assists.

Dustin Fulton then added an empty-net goal with 58 second remaining to end the scoring at 4-1.

Senior goaltender Vince Wheeler (Clearwater, Minn.) made 31 saves for the Johnnies, while Christian made 29 stops for Hamline (13-9-1, 8-6-0 MIAC).

The Pipers ended the day 3-for-7 on the power play, while the Johnnies were 0-for-6 with the man advantage, including a 5-on-3 power play just 48 seconds into the game.

SJU hosts Saint Mary's for a 7 p.m. game next Saturday, Feb. 21 at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
