Johnnies Finish Eighth at Regional, Franta Headed to Nationals

GRINNELL, Iowa – Saint John's finished eight out of 25 teams at the 2009 NCAA Central Regional on Saturday, Nov. 14.

Junior Dustin Franta (La Crescent, Minn.) led the Johnnies with an eighth-place finish overall (25:17). He will represent SJU at the 2009 NCAA Division III Championship next Saturday, Nov. 21, hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College (Ohio). The race is scheduled for 11 a.m. (CST) at Highland Hills G.C. in Cleveland, Ohio.

Senior Patrick Lowder (Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) finished 23rd with a time of 25:55 to earn All-Region honors (Top 35). Senior Ryan Noack (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) and junior David Forster (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) finished 39th (26:25) and 41st (26:29), respectively. Sophomore Ruairi Moynihan (Fargo, N.D./South) claimed 72nd (26:55), while sophomore Andrew Clasen (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) rounded out the Johnnies' seven in 99th place (27:21).

St. Thomas won the regional via the tie-breaker with 116 points. The MIAC claimed 10 of the first 11 finishers in the race.
