COON RAPIDS, Minn. – Saint John’s University won its fifth MIAC Men’s Golf Championship in the last six years with a three-day total of 880 (+16) on Monday, Oct. 5. The title clinches the Johnnies’ 11th consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Championship May 11-14 in Hershey, Pa.
Gustavus Adolphus and St. Thomas tied for second with a 901 (+37), followed by Concordia-Moorhead (919, +55) and St. Olaf (923, +59).
Sophomore Tony Krogen (Marshall, Minn.) became the eighth Johnnie in school history to earn medalist honors with a three-day total of 213 (-3).
Freshman Mark Giorgi (Red Wing, Minn.) and senior Ben Vangsness (Alexandria, Minn.) also earned All-MIAC honors (finish in the top 10, including ties). Giorgi tied for third overall with a 223 (+7), while Vangsness fired an even-par 72 to tie for eighth with a 226 (+10). Freshman Dennis Granath (Bandhagen, Sweden/Farsta Gymnasium) claimed 12th with a 227 (+11) and junior Ben Cahill rounded out the Johnnies’ five with a 229 (+13).
The Johnnies return to action at the Twin Cities Classic, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus, this Saturday-Monday, Oct. 10-12.
