SJU Cross Country Returns to Action Saturday in Wisconsin

The Johnnies return to action this Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Wis.-La Crosse Invitational. The race is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the Maple Grove C.C. in West Salem, Wis.

A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: The Saint John’s varsity squad traveled to Salem, Oregon on Oct. 3 where they placed11th out of 19 teams at the Willamette Invitational. Chico State (Calif.) won the men’s race with 45 points, followed by Boise State (52), Willamette (113), Idaho (165) and Nebraska Wesleyan (170). Junior Dustin Franta (La Crescent, Minn.) led the Johnnies (262 points) with a 40th-place finish (25:27). Senior Andrew Stevens (Stillwater, Minn.) finished 51st (25:37), while senior Patrick Lowder (Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) took 64th (25:44). Junior Tom Hoffman (Mahtomedi, Minn.) and senior Ryan Noack (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) claimed  66th (25:46) and 70th (25:49), respectively.  The junior varsity finished 12th out of 18 teams at the Wis.-Eau Claire Invitational on Friday, Oct. 2. Sophomore Grant Cook (Duluth, Minn./East) led SJU, which finished with 342 points, with a 45th-place finish (27:23). Freshman Matt Scherber (Royalton, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) followed in 62nd (27:47), while sophomore Jordan Fladland (Coon Rapids, Minn.) claimed 70th (27:57). Sophomore Steven Lubner (Oconomowoc, Wis.) and senior Joe Kilkus (Winona, Minn./Cotter) finished 79th (28:15) and 86th (28:24), respectively. Junior John Collier (West Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) and freshman Collin Hager (Miltona, Minn./Parkers Prairie) rounded out the Johnnies’ seven in 90th (28:54) and 96th (29:04), respectively. Saint John’s was ranked No. 29 in the latest U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III national rankings released Oct. 7. The Johnnies were also ranked No. 2 in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division III Central Region rankings released Oct. 13.

LAST YEAR’S WIS.-LA CROSSE INVITATIONAL: Saint John's finished 11th out of 25 teams at last year’s Wis.-La Crosse Invitational on Oct. 18, 2008. Senior Andrew Stevens (Stillwater, Minn.) led the Johnnies with a 38th-place finish (26:06), while fellow Senior Ryan Noack (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) followed in 40th with a time of 26:08, while  junior  Dustin Franta (La Crescent, Minn.) finished 53rd (26:19).  Wis.-La Crosse won its own invite last year, followed by the University of Wisconsin. - Team Results | Individual Results
 
THIS YEAR'S MEET: The Johnnies will be accompanied by fellow MIAC schools Gustavus Adolphus, Hamline, Macalester, Saint Mary’s, St. Olaf and St. Thomas.
